The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services indicates that these caregivers often experience increased levels of stress, isolation, and burnout, contributing to a cycle of decline that affects both caregivers and those they support. As a result, networking opportunities for caregivers are essential to provide mutual support and resource sharing.
Infrastructure and Workforce Constraints
The infrastructure to support caregivers in Kansas is particularly strained. Many rural counties lack comprehensive health services and community support systems, which exacerbates the challenges caregivers face. For instance, 57 out of 105 counties in Kansas were identified by the Kansas Health Institute as having a shortage of mental health providers, a critical resource for caregivers managing stress and emotional challenges.
