Kansas Agricultural Training Eligibility Criteria
Kansas restricts agricultural training grants to women who derive at least 50 percent of household income from farming or ranching operations located within the state. Applicants must provide Schedule F tax forms or county-level FSA enrollment records for the most recent two tax years.
Eligibility further requires residence in one of the 77 non-metropolitan counties or within designated rural census tracts of the four metropolitan counties. Urban applicants without documented land access receive no consideration regardless of agricultural interest.
Application packets demand verification from the local county extension office confirming participation in at least one prior Kansas State University research or demonstration plot. Proposals that substitute out-of-state extension records are rejected.
Review panels assess whether requested training addresses Kansas-specific production constraints such as Ogallala Aquifer depletion rates or wheat streak mosaic virus management. Generic sustainable-farming curricula without Kansas yield or water-use data are scored lower.
Kansas differs from Nebraska and Oklahoma programs by requiring proof that at least 30 percent of training hours occur on land enrolled in the state's water-conservation cost-share programs. This anchor ensures funded education directly supports measurable aquifer-preservation targets rather than diffuse rural development goals.
